Photos of victims of herdsmen killings being buried in a mass grave have surfaced on the internet. The photos are reported to have been taken after an attack on a village on Tuesday in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau state.
The Police had disclosed that the death toll from the attacks on communities in Plateau State has risen to 16, but residents claimed 25 people have been killed, and blamed herdsmen for the attack on communities in the area, including on the days President Muhammadu Buhari visited the state.
The Police spokesman Mr Terna Tyopev said 16 people were confirmed killed in the multiple attacks on several villages between Wednesday, March 7 and Friday, March 9, adding that the Command had deployed more personnel to restore peace to the troubled areas, and advised the people to remain calm and avoid taking laws into their hands.
‘From reports we got from the villages, it is confirmed that 16 people were killed in the attacks on the villages and as I speak with you now, the Police Command has deployed more personnel to the troubled communities.
I will also like top use this medium to admonish the people within the areas to remain calm as peace will surely be restored and the police will ensure that the perpetrators of the evil are brought to book.
No one is above the law, when it comes to killing of another citizen of the county. But the people should stay calm and not take the laws into their hands. That is the responsibility of the police’ He said:
Meanwhile, community leaders, who briefed journalists in Jos Sunday, said 25 people were killed in the attacks, while many others were still missing.
