EPL: Manchester City vs Chelsea: Team News, Injuries, Potential Lineups
Title holders, Chelsea will be up against Manchester City on Sunday, with Pep Guardiola’s side almost certain to win their fifth EPL title this term.
Manchester City have a nineteen point lead over Chelsea after 28 games, having defeated Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates on Thursday.
Chelsea are fifth on the log and sit two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, meaning they face a battle to secure qualification for the Champions League.
For Chelsea, David Luiz is currently out with an ankle injury why midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has a knock that he sustained in training.
Ross Barkley, who has a hamstring injury, has stepped up his training routine and is close to making his comeback.
Alvaro Morata made his first start for over a month in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United but he is still struggling with pain from his back injury.
Chelsea currently have no players suspended. Spain striker Morata is, however, one yellow card away from a two-match ban after accumulating nine bookings.
Chelsea’s potential starting line-up
Chelsea might opt for a similar approach deployed against Barcelona in the Champions League when they tackle Manchester City, who play a similar style of football.
The formation would mean Eden Hazard playing as a false 9, supported by both Willian and Pedro.
Willian has netted in his last three games and now has 12 goals for the season.
Morata’s poor form might lead him to being left out, as Conte appears to have settled on a first eleven again.
Potential XI for Chelsea: Courtois, Rudigar, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Alonso, Kante, Fabregas, Moses, Pedro, Hazard, Willian.
Man City team news
For the Citizens, Fernandinho ruled himself out with an ankle injury after their Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal at the weekend.
Fabian Delph remains suspended.
Raheem Sterling and Yaya Toure are doubts with muscle injuries and illness respectively, while Benjamin Mendy is on the long-term injured list.
Potential lineup for Manchester City: Ederson, Otamendi, Kompany Danilo, Walker, D Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Sane, Aguero, and B Silva.
